“silver and articles of gold, and clothing”
an answer to prayer? Not for me!
Maybe it is my old age. I grew up with less than my neighbors and spent my childhood dreaming of riches. I spent my adulthood dreaming of ways to attain riches.
Then I started praying, not for riches but for answers, guidance.
I must have been more open and had more of an ear to hear than I realized. I am no longer who I was for my whole life. My definition of riches is completely opposite what it had always been.
Now I pray for peace of mind.
Even though now I don’t want riches, I have come to understand that the lust for them was taught to me by the culture I grew up in.
Now I struggle not to feel that I am sinning by not striving for “things” the way I was trained.
Has God ever answered your prayers in a way you didn’t expect?

The Israelites in Egypt, miserable with the lives they were leading, prayed to their Lord. He answered with more than they could have dreamed of. Not just freedom and a new land to live in – but riches!
and the Israelites groaned because of their bondage. They cried out, and their cry for deliverance from slavery rose up to God. – Exo 2:23
The Israelites after Crossing the Red Sea – Simon de Vos
“I will grant this people favor in the sight of the Egyptians; and it shall be that when you go, you will not go empty-handed. “But every woman shall ask of her neighbor and the woman who lives in her house, articles of silver and articles of gold, and clothing; and you will put them on your sons and daughters. Thus you will plunder the Egyptians.” – Exo 3:21-22
“Speak now in the hearing of the people that each man ask from his neighbor and each woman from her neighbor for articles of silver and articles of gold.” […] Now the sons of Israel had done according to the word of Moses, for they had requested from the Egyptians articles of silver and articles of gold, and clothing; […] and the LORD had given the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they let them have their request. Thus they plundered the Egyptians. – Exo 11-12
So the Lord, true to his word, led the Israelites out of Egypt, not only out of bondage but they left loaded down with Gold and Silver…
