O give thanks to Jehovah, for He is good;
For His lovingkindness endures for ever.
Let the redeemed of Jehovah speak out !
Whom He has redeemed from the hand of the adversary,
and gathered out of the lands,
From the east and from the west,
from the north and from the south.
They wandered in the wilderness on a desolate path;
they found no city of habitation.
Hungry and thirsty,
their soul fainted within them.
And they cried to Jehovah in their troubles,
and He delivered them from their distress,
He led them also by the straight way,
that they might go to a city of habitation.
Oh that men would praise Jehovah for His lovingkindness,
and for His wonderful works for the children of men!
For He satisfies the longing soul,
and the hungry soul, He fills with goodness.
Some sat in darkness and in the shadow of death,
bound in affliction and chains,
because they rebelled against the words of God’,
and spurned the design of the Most High:
Therefore He humbled their hearts with labor;
they fell down, and there was none to help.
Then they cried to Jehovah in their trouble,
and He saved them from their distress.
He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death,
and broke their chains in pieces.
Oh that men would praise Jehovah for His lovingkindness,
and for His wonderful works for the children of men!
For He has broken the gates of brass,
and cut the bars of iron in sunder.
Some were fools because of their walk in transgression,
and because of their wickedness, they are afflicted.
Their body hates all manner of food;
and they draw near to the gates of death.
Then they cry to Jehovah in their trouble,
and He saves them from their distress.
He sends his word, and heals them,
and delivers them from their destruction.
Oh that men would praise Jehovah for His lovingkindness,
and for His wonderful works for the children of men!
And let them offer the sacrifices of thanksgiving,
and declare his works with joyful singing.
Those that go down to the sea in ships,
that do business in the great waters;
These see the works of Jehovah,
and His wonders of the deep.
For He speaks, and raises the stormy wind,
which lifts up the waves of the sea.
They mount up to the heavens,
they go down again to the depths:
their spirit melts away because of their misery.
They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man,
all their knowledge, useless!
Then they cry to Jehovah in their trouble,
and He brings them out of their distress.
He makes the storm calm,
so that the waves of the sea are still.
Then are they glad because they are quiet;
so He led them to their desired haven.
Oh that men would praise Jehovah for His lovingkindness,
and for His wonderful works for the children of men!
Let them exalt Him also in the brother’s gatherings,
and boast of Him in the assembly of the elders.
He turns rivers into a desert,
and springs of water into a thirsty ground;
A fruitful land into a salty waste,
because of the wickedness of them that dwell there.
He turns a desert into a pool of water,
and a parched land into watersprings.
And there He settles the hungry to dwell,
that they may prepare a city of habitation,
and sow fields, and plant vineyards,
and gather a fruitful harvest.
He blesses them, so that they are multiplied greatly;
and He does not allow their herd to decrease.
When they are diminished and bowed down
through oppression, calamity, and grief.
He pours contempt on their rulers,
and causes them to wander the waste, where there is no way.
Yet He sets the needy on high, away from suffering,
and makes him families like a flock.
The righteous shall see, and rejoice;
but all wickedness shuts its mouth.
He who is wise, will see, and know the lovingkindnesses of Jehovah.
