Counting Pentecost ~ Day Thirty Six ~ Waiting

Update May 13th 2018 ~ by Leilani

Today is the 1st day of the 6th week of seven weeks. Today is the 36th day of the counting of fifty days from the day of the waving of the Omer on the morrow after the Sabbath.

The resurrection of Jesus is the great fact on which the truth of the gospel was and is to be established. We serve a living God, not one made by the hands of man, fashioned of wood or stone. Deuteronomy 4:28 Our Heavenly Father hears us, waiting patiently for us to come to Him. 2 Peter 3:9 He formed us in our mother’s womb and has counted the hairs of our head. He knows what our needs are before we ask—but longs to hear us ask Him. Matthew 6:8

To these He also presented Himself alive after His suffering, by many convincing proofs, appearing to them over a period of forty days and speaking of the things concerning the kingdom of God. Gathering them together, He commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for what the Father had promised, “Which,” He said, “you heard of from Me;  for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” Acts 1:3-5

Waiting on God for the anointing of the Spirit is the great condition of spiritual blessing and fullness of power. Those whom Jesus Christ employs as His witnesses He will qualify for it by a better spirit than their own—the Holy Spirit, His representative. Summarized Bible by Keith L. Brooks 1919

According to the People’s New Testament  there were “eleven appearances recorded, they say there were probably others.” . And as we read in John yesterday he says,”there was so much else that Jesus did; if it were written down in detail, I do not suppose the world itself would hold all the books that would be written.” John 21:25

I couldn’t find a list of the “eleven” appearances in the PNT, I did find these lists of proofs and appearances by Clarke ~

1.    Appearing to several different persons at different times.
2.    His eating and drinking with them.
3.    His meeting them in Galilee according to his own appointment.
4.    His subjecting his body to be touched and handled by them.
5.    His instructing them in the nature and doctrines of his kingdom.
6.    His appearing to upwards of five hundred persons at once, 1Cor 15:6. And,
7.    Continuing these public manifestations of himself for forty days.
The several appearances of Jesus Christ, during the forty days of his sojourning with his disciples, between his resurrection and ascension, are thus enumerated by Bishop Pearce:
The first was to Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary, Matt 28:1-9.
The second, to the two disciples on their way to Emmaus, Luke 24:15.
The third, to Simon Peter, Luke 24:34.
The fourth, to ten of the apostles, Thomas being absent, Luke24:36, and John 20:19. (All these four appearances took place on the day of his resurrection.)
The fifth was to the eleven disciples, Thomas being then with them, John 20:26.
The sixth, to seven of the apostles in Galilee, at the sea of Tiberias, John21:4.
The seventh, to James, 1Cor 15:7, most probably in Jerusalem, and when Jesus gave an order for all his apostles to assemble together, as in Acts 1:4.
The eighth, when they were assembled together, and when he led them unto Bethany, Luke 24:50, from whence he ascended to heaven. But see the note on John 21:14, for farther particulars. Adam Clarke’s Commentary on the Bible
(I sure would’ve like to have found these lists before I started this counting!)

    @Brian
Life is definitely trying. I am cognizant of the fact that God is not specifically testing my limits everyday. Bad things are not morally right or wrong they just exist. It is how we respond that concerns God. This however does not give me …comfort. What sustains and comforts me through the mundane is the knowledge that these experiences are a necessity. From the flesh I grow in my Mothers Womb and continue to mature once out of the womb. The same is true to grow in spirit. I experience life so God can grow and mature me as a christian so that one day I can walk with him in the kingdom. For us christian ”babes” I pray it is not too soon as I feel we still have more to grow. Unless of course He deems me ready now, then of course I would be willing to trade up.
