Update May 15th 2018 – by Randy
Today is the 3rd day of the 6th week of seven weeks. Today is the 38th day of the counting of fifty days from the day of the waving of the Omer on the morrow after the Sabbath.
A gift from God
In rereading, something from the Chuck Smith quote below caught my eye “The Sabbath was made for man. God made it for man to give the body a chance to just sort of recuperate.”
Six years ago I assumed Chuck was referring to Jesus saying that the Sabbath was made for man, this time I noticed the Exodus 16 quote that Chuck was commenting on, and Jehovah says right there that the Sabbath rest day is His gift to man. So I guess when Jesus says it, He is quoting Himself.
“See, for that Jehovah hath given you the Sabbath, therefore He giveth you on the sixth day the bread of two days; abide ye every man in his place, let no man go out of his place on the seventh day.” (Exo 16:29 ASV)

So the Israelites continue to learn on this day, like doubting Thomas….
Moses said, “Eat it today, for today is a Sabbath to the LORD; today you will not find it in the field. “Six days you shall gather it, but on the seventh day, the Sabbath, there will be none.” It came about on the seventh day that some of the people went out to gather, but they found none. Exo 16:25-27
It is said that the idea of a day of rest was known to them before this, but it is sure that as slaves they weren’t getting a day off, since the Egyptians weren’t taking one. I have heard that the fact that the Jews took one day in seven off from work is one of the things that made them stand out and separated them from the rest of the world from the beginning.
But our Lord wasn’t into excuses….
Then the LORD said to Moses, “How long do you refuse to keep My commandments and My instructions? “See, the LORD has given you the Sabbath; therefore He gives you bread for two days on the sixth day. Remain every man in his place; let no man go out of his place on the seventh day.”
…..So the people rested on the seventh day. Exo 16:28-30
Chuck Smith Says:
Now the Lord said, “Six days shalt thou labour and do thy work, but the seventh day is a day of rest.” God said, “I have given you the Sabbath.” The Sabbath was made for man. God made it for man to give the body a chance to just sort of recuperate. The idea was just stay in bed, rest, do nothing. It wasn’t really get up and go to Sabbath school, or go to synagogue, or whatever. It was just stay in bed and rest on the Sabbath day. I don’t know, but what that wouldn’t be a good idea.
To this day traditional Jewish Sabbath dinners have two loaves of bread on the table to remember.
How do you observe it?
