Counting Pentecost ~ Day Six ~ Pharaoh’s pursuit

update april 13th 2018

Today is the 6th day of the 1st week of seven weeks. Today is the 6th day of the counting of fifty days from the day of the waving of the Omer on the morrow after the Sabbath.

It seems as if the Israelite have their “but” in the wrong place. They, like us look at the size of the circumstance and determine that Jehovah our God is not big enough, forgetting He is the Creator. Corrie Ten Boom in her book, “Don’t Wrestle just Nestle” had this to say about how we should respond when our circumstances are over-whelming.

The Lord is my Shepherd—but I have a health problem.
Or, The Lord is my Shepherd—but I have marriage problems.
Or,“The Lord is my Shepherd—but I cannot control my children.

When we say The Lord is my Shepherd—but—we are putting our “but” in the wrong place. We need to get our “but” in the right place and recall the precious promise of these words this way:

I have a health problem, BUT the Lord is my Shepherd!
I have marriage problems, BUT the Lord is my Shepherd!
I cannot control my children, BUT the Lord is my Shepherd!

20 Abib 1313BC

Pharaoh’s pursuit of the Jews ended on this day, on the shores of the Red Sea.
A terrified Jewish nation divides into several factions. Some advocated mass suicide, others wanted to surrender and return to Egypt, the bolder ones prepared to battle the Egyptians, while others advised the nation to pray.

And the Egyptians pursued after them, all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, and his horsemen, and his army, and overtook them encamping by the sea, beside Pihahiroth, before Baal-zephon.
And when Pharaoh drew nigh, the children of Israel lifted up their eyes, and, behold, the Egyptians were marching after them; and they were sore afraid: and the children of Israel cried out unto Jehovah.

And Moses said unto the people, Jehovah will fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace. Exo 14:9-14

UPDATE April 10th 2015

I am remembering what Lei said last night about sharing what God says and whether anyone will believe you. I am also remembering what I said a few days ago about being jealous that the Israelites had a pillar of cloud to follow, to know that what they were doing was God’s will.
And now it is 3 days later, Moses had done the hard thing and shared with the Israelites what God had said and now the going gets rough and the Israelites are wishing they had never listened, they wish they had done the easy thing and stayed slaves in the Pharaoh’s world.

As Pharaoh approached, the people of Israel looked up and saw the Egyptians right there, coming after them. In great fear the people of Israel cried out to Jehovah and said to Moses, “Was it because there weren’t enough graves in Egypt that you brought us out to die in the desert? Why have you done this to us, bringing us out of Egypt? Didn’t we tell you in Egypt to let us alone, we’ll just go on being slaves for the Egyptians? It would be better for us to be the Egyptians’ slaves than to die in the desert!”
(Exo 14:10-12)

I found this commentary in the the Summarized Bible by KEITH L. BROOKS in 1919. He says that the work was compiled largely from notes made in the margins of his Bible, kept, for the most part without regard to their sources.

The believer cannot go ahead in the strength of Christ until he has learned to stand still in his own helplessness. God can then place Himself between us and our circumstances and wonderfully deliver.

By the blood, God comes between us and our sins. By His presence, if we will permit, He will come between us and every overcoming circumstance. The cross separates from sin; the cloud from circumstances.
