These are some good soul searching questions. The brutality that my Jesus endured for me, for you, is hard a thing to contemplate, certainly to watch the re-enactment in Mel Gibson’s movie “Passion of the Christ” is very hard. And that is only a fraction of the suffering He took on Himself. In the moment(s) He took on our sin, He was separated from the Father. That is the only time He cried out, “MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME?”
40 Questions for Christians
1. What is One thing that you must admit matters more to you than God?
2. Do you GO to a Building called the “Church” or do you go to a Building to learn how to BE the “Church”?
3. Are you following a Way of Life called CHRISTianity or a Religion that should be called CHURCHianity?
4. Are you just as concerned about “Saving Souls” as you are about Changing Lives?
5. Is it YOU that is “Saving Souls” and Changing Lives, or is it the CREATOR who gave both the Soul and the Life to the one you are speaking with?
6. Are you running around just making Converts or are you intent on making Disciples as well?
7. If you were charged in a Court of Law with being a Christian, would there be enough Evidence to Convict without any Reasonable Doubt remaining?
8. If God asked you to do something that the Pastor and the Choir and the Elders and Deacons and all of the old ladies at the Potluck didn’t approve of, would you be Obedient anyway?
9. If a Homosexual that voted for Obama and smokes like a chimney came into your Church covered in Tattoos and Piercings, would you send them back out the door or ask them to a take a seat on the pew between the Gossip that heads the Chamber of Commerce and the Closet Alcoholic on the City Council?
10. Do you believe that most “non-believers” actually were presented with the real Historical/Biblical Jesus and rejected Him, or did most of them just reject the Self-Righteous Jack-@ass trying to beat them over the head with a Bible, make them put their cigarette out, quit watching Family Guy, and start pretending to be someone else for 2 hours every Sunday?
11. Is the purpose of a Missionary to make indigenous people Biblical, 1st Century Believers, or to make them American, 21st Century Churchians?
12. Would you be late for Church to help an old lady on the side of the road change a tire?
13. What would you do, that God has called you to do, if you weren’t attached to your 401K, House in the Suburbs, and Seat on the Building Committee?
14. If one of the Homeless People that you passed on the street yesterday was Jesus, would you be ashamed or afraid of Him on Judgment Day, or happy to see an old friend?
15. Is this what YOU Honestly, Truly, Believe, or is it just what you Grew Up with? Is it your Faith, or just the Faith of your Family and your Parents?
16. Would you desire that your children become Prodigals if it leads them to a true Relationship with their Redeemer, or would you desire that they remain as the Older Brother and keep all the Rules, make straight A’s, Graduate College and have a Clean Criminal Records and perfect Credit Score, but never reach the place of being embraced in the Father’s arms?
17. Could you accept that almost everything you were every taught in Church was a lie, IF it could be shown by the Scriptures themselves and confirmed by the Spirit of God? And would you hit the Door running and start all over with just the Spirit and the Truth, or stay asleep on a bed of Tradition, rolling over occasionally to read a new book or sing a new hymn?
18. Is it okay to go through the Motions even if your Heart is not in them?
19. What would happen if no one had any expectations of you at all, how would you live?
20. Can you name 20 people at your Church that DON’T have a title before their name?
21. When was the last time you did something for someone else, that nobody would know about?
22. If you knew that someone who needed God in their life, and would never, ever set foot in your Church for whatever reason, would you invite them to someone else’s?
23. Would you invite the individual in the world that you hate the most to come and sit on the pew beside you, or would you send them somewhere else? Not a type of person that you don’t like, but instead someone that had greatly wronged you personally?
24. When was the last time you did something good for someone that had personally wronged you?
25. Name one tradition or habit that you gave up because you found out that it was contrary to Scripture?
26. If your Pastor was preaching something clearly unscriptural and harmful, would you speak up?
27. When was the last time you took up for someone who was being Gossiped about, unfairly Judged, or clearly mistreated at your Church?
28. How many times in the last 6 months have you had lunch with someone that didn’t live in your neighborhood, earn in your salary range, or follow your denomination?
29. If a local Church in your area, aside from yours, were to do a Service Project, would you help them anyway?
30. Do you think people should be looked at from the perspective of where they have been, or from the perspective of where they are going?
31. If you knew that you would never, ever earn a title, would you continue to serve in the way that you are serving now for the rest of your life?
32. If someone never walked in a Church, and didn’t own a television, and your example was the only Bible they would ever read, could you honestly expect them to become a Christian?
33. Can you name more things about you Spiritually that need to change than areas you think you are doing good in?
34. Have you pulled more people towards Christ than you have pushed away from Him?
35. Is more of your time, energy, focus and money dedicated to gathering treasures in this life or dedicated to gathering treasures in the next?
36. What habits, customs, traditions, weaknesses, attitudes are in your life that you hope your children do not inherit from you?
37. What habits, customs, routines and strengths are you developing so that your children can inherit them from you?
38. If people who could not benefit you at all, were given custody of your children, and would treat your children the way that you had treated those people, would you be worried about your kids? Because that is their Spiritual Inheritance.
39. Can you list more things that you have given Thanks for in the past week than things you have Grumbled about?
