I remember when I came to realize that all the circumstances of my life—God has allowed them all. I had no problem acknowledging that God is the author and finisher of my faith, that He is a God of miracles, that He is love, that He loves me in truth and righteousness. But when it came to the terrible things that happened in my life—I assigned those things to Satan, not realizing, in doing that, I was saying God was not all-powerful. When I finally accepted that God allowed the bad, it released me from the power I had given to the devil, letting him whisper in my ear, “If God loved you, He wouldn’t have allowed that to happen”.
Clippings from My Notebook by Corrie Ten Boom
Often I have heard people say, “How good God is. We prayed that it would not rain for our church picnic, and look at this lovely weather!” Yes, God is good when He sends good weather. But God was also good when He allowed my sister Betsie to starve to death before my eyes in the German concentration camp. I remember one occasion when I was very discouraged there. Everything around us was dark, and there was darkness in my heart. I remember telling Betsie that I thought God had forgotten us. “No, Corrie,” said Betsie, “He has not forgotten us. Remember His Word: ‘For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him.’” There is an ocean of God’s love available…. There is plenty for everyone. May God grant you never to doubt that victorious love—whatever the circumstances.
Now when the past tries to ruin my present I remember, all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose, Rom 8:28 Since my acknowledgment and gradual acceptance of what God has allowed in my past, present and future, I am able to experience a much deeper and meaningful relationship with the Father. Today the devil is not as able to rob me of my peace….at least not for long periods of time….he still attacks, but daily God is replacing my doubt, with His comforting love..
